After graduating from college with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, William went to veterinary school at Cornell University. It was during this time that his interest in equine surgery was solidified. After receiving his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) he traveled to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky for a one year equine medical and surgical internship.
Upon completion of his internship, William was accepted into the prestigious equine surgical residency program at Michigan State University. During his surgical residency he conducted extensive research in subchondral bone cysts of the equine stifle and researched a new procedure involving transplantation of endogenous cancellous bone into the cystic cavities.
After finishing the surgical residency, he successfully completed certification to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS) and joined the staff of the Equine Specialty Hospital. In 2004, Dr. Jackson received his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) after an intensive two year program at Cleveland State University while continuing to work full time as a veterinarian. In April of 2004, William and his wife Dr. Cynthia Jackson purchased the Equine Specialty Hospital. Together they cater to clients by providing progressive specialty medicine and surgery services.
Dr. William Jackson maintains a special interest in equine orthopedics and lameness. The most common orthopedic procedure, arthroscopy is performed on a regular basis at the Equine Specialty Hospital as is internal fixation for fracture repair. |
Dr. Cynthia Jackson grew up in upstate N.Y. Her undergraduate studies were done at Michigan State University. Dr. Jackson attended Cornell Veterinary School. She completed a private practice internship at the Rochester Equine Clinic in Rochester, N.H. Dr. Jackson accepted the position of Hospital Clinician after the completion of her internship becoming a partner in the practice.
Dr. Cynthia A. Jackson then returned to Cornell University to begin a 3 year large animal Medicine residency. During her residency, Dr. Jackson was an integral part of the research team investigating Equine Motor Neuron Disease, a neurologic disorder in horses similar to Lou Gerhig’s Disease. Dr. Jackson completed her board certification examinations achieving the distinction of Diplomate Status in Large Animal Internal Medicine. Dr. Jackson received a fellowship in the Pulmonary Laboratory at Michigan State University under the direction of Dr. N.E. Robinson. This laboratory is one of the most highly regarded in the world in the study of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dr. Jackson joined the Equine Specialty Hospital staff in 1999 and currently co-owns the Practice with her husband William. |
Dr. Melissa Milligan grew up in northeast Iowa. After earning her bachelors degree from Iowa State University in Animal Science she entered veterinary school at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduating with honors. She then completed a private practice internship at Equine Medical Associates in Edmond, Oklahoma and continued gaining valuable private practice experience as an associate following completion of her internship.
Dr. Milligan then began an intensive 3 year equine surgical residency at Kansas State University training under one of the Nations most experienced surgeons, Dr. Warren Beard. During her residency, Dr. Milligan investigated the complex issues of small intestinal motility, specifically the effects of lidocaine and its use in horses recovering from colic surgery. She also received her Master of Science degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences from Kansas State University.
Dr. Milligan joined The Equine Specialty Hospital (ESH) as a integrated team of doctors and technicians. Dr. Milligan continues her interest in colic surgery, and in addition she develops the hospitals MRI program, which provides unprecedented soft tissue imaging of the limbs of the horse.
Upon Completion of her residency program and starting her tenure at The Equine Specialty Hospital, Dr. Milligan successfully completed certification and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). |
