Surgical Services

The Equine Specialty Hospital has two fully equipped surgical suites. The first suited primarily for orthopedics and the second for soft tissue surgery. All necessary equipment for the procedure being performed is readily available to the surgical team. This may include video endoscopic units, lasers, ultrasound, radiography, electrocautery, endo-stapling equipment, insuflation units, arthroscopes, laparoscopes and all the necessary orthopedic equipment for fracture repair.

Surgeries are performed by board certified individuals through
The American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the highest degree
of certification available.

Only veterinarians or registered veterinary technicians anesthetize patients. Anesthetized horses are maintained under anesthesia with either Isoflurane or Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) and monitored using ECG, direct blood pressure, and blood gases. All horses recover from anesthesia in one of three separate fully padded induction/recovery stalls with continuous monitoring.
